Maintaining the organization for our children's toys is always a difficult task, especially at this time of year in which - with Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men in between - children are presented in January with a lot of new gifts and, certainly not enough space to keep them all stored.
Their room is so full that they hardly have room to play, toys appear in every corner and room of the house, the storage for household items, clothes or books is reduced by the amount of space that your children's belongings occupy ... sounds? Do not panic! Next, we are going to give you a series of organization guidelines for toys that will make your house not look like a huge and chaotic playroom, and will help you maintain order through very simple routines. Pay attention!
Organizational tips for toys
Dispose of what is not used
The first step is to make room for new toys by removing everything that has become obsolete, unused or broken. A task that you should not carry out without talking or agreeing with your children ... it is very important that they participate in the process! Make them aware that they have limited space to store toys, ask them to select those with which they have not played in the last year and convince them that it is not necessary to store toys that are very similar to each other, that have the same function or that are for the little ones.
Ā
A nice way to make them participate in this process and teach them to share is to talk about the donation: toys that are not broken or in poor condition can be given to an NGO to make other children happy who do not have anything to play with.
Ā
Choosing an area for toys only
That children have a space to store their things and play, will prevent toys from flooding the whole house. This space can be their own room or a separate playroom, but it is important that the little ones understand what the area is intended for that purpose, so that they themselves can collaborate in the organization.
Ā
Create a routine
Your little ones must understand the importance of organization for toys, since they must be the ones who take care of keeping everything neat every day. Teach them that when they finish playing, everything has to be properly collected and put in its proper place; And if, when they go to remove a new toy from their site, they first save the old one with which they have already stopped playing, it will cost them much less work to collect at the end.
Ā
Have everything well classified
The easiest way to keep toys in order is to create categories (for example, dolls, cars, construction pieces, stuffed animals, costumesā¦) and assign each category a place. In this way, your children will not only be able to find the toy they are looking for without having to turn everything upside down, but they will also have it easier to keep everything collected and organized.
Ā
Take advantage of the space
Beyond the shelves or furniture you have, resort to alternative storage so that your children can have everything collected, without taking up too much space. An interesting option, for example, is to take advantage of the space under the bed to place storage boxes for the different toys (if they are transparent, better, so that children can see the content at a glance). You can also use furniture with double function (for example, a bench to sit down to play or read, that has storage space inside), or items that serve to store toys and that take up little space (such as baskets or organizer bags that can be hung from doors or the wall).
Ā
Everything, within the reach of the little ones
Finally, remember to put the toys that your children use most frequently on the shelves and lower areas, so that they acquire autonomy and are the ones who can pick them up and pick them up without the need for an adult. On the contrary, the higher shelves, reserve them to those toys that they use less frequently.
