Tenerife is a paradise with guaranteed sunshine almost every day of the year. Exploring its most spectacular beaches is a must on your visit to the island. That's why today we'll show you the best places to enjoy a swim in the Atlantic Ocean.
We will start the route in the south east, the enclave of Landmar Playa la Arena and Landmar Costa los Gigantes, the hotels that will make your holiday unforgettable.
In Santiago del Teide, the municipality where they are located, the Cliffs of Los Gigantes are the main protagonists. At
Los Guíos Beach , at the foot of these rocky mountains, you can take a quiet swim and watch a dreamlike sunset. Nearby, the Isla Cangrejo pool, hidden amongst the rows of houses of a housing development, becomes a natural swimming pool with privileged views of the island of La Gomera.
Heading towards the south of the island we find the most touristy spots: Guía de Isora, Arona and Adeje are some of the municipalities most frequented by both national and foreign visitors.
Playa de Las Vistas and Playa del Duque are two golden sandy beaches where the whole family can enjoy themselves.
In this area, if you like water sports, you can't miss
Puerto Colón , where in addition to swimming and sunbathing almost 365 days a year, you can go on sea excursions such as a riding jet skis, a fun boat party or whale watching.
If you are still looking for some peace and quiet in this more crowded area, the authentic natural paradise of
Diego Hernández , is just for you. Its crystal clear waters and golden sand can be visited if you take a short walk through the fishing village of La Caleta. And although it takes some effort to get there, it's worth it. Diego Hernandez is a paradise for divers and lovers of fish and underwater plants.
A little bit of the south
Before leaving the south, if we head towards the metropolitan area, we can't miss three dream locations. El Médano and La Tejita, very close to the southern airport, are two different but complementary beaches. La Jaquita, our third proposal, is another word for tranquillity.
The lively
Playa del Médanois a windsurfers' paradise . On the promenade there are bars, restaurants and shops to suit all tastes. Meanwhile, La Tejita is one of Tenerife’s most famous nudist beaches. Often there are waves crashing on the beach, but when the wind and the sea die down, bathers can enjoy an unexplored, unspoilt paradise.
The coves and beach of
La Jaquita bring out Tenerife’s volcanic nature. Black rock decorates the small beach, which has been awarded a Blue Flag, an indication of its waters’ quality. The nearby rock pools, another of its great treasures, are easy to discover via a short walk that links them all together.
Destination, Metropolitan area
Santa Cruz de Tenerife also has beaches that both locals and tourists love.
Las Teresitas , the most famous and urban, has white sand and idyllic scenery. Take refuge in the kiosks near the famous row of palm trees and enjoy a refreshing mojito or an exquisite brunch. There’s nothing better than to spend the day paddle surfing or playing beach volleyball.
Following the roadside path,
Las Gaviotas beach shows us the opposite side: black sand and waves to get to know one of the secrets of the island's capital. However, if you decide to meander along the road to Las Gaviotas you should bear two things in mind: parking restrictions and the hours of sunshine. Lorenzo, as the locals like to call the sun, hides early behind the mountain, so we recommend that you don't leave it until too late in the day.
In the Anaga Rural Park,
Benijo and Taganana are two enclaves that are a must for nature lovers. Take the opportunity to enjoy typical local cuisine and visit one of the Canary Islands’ most beautiful rural areas.
Lose your way up north
Although we have already made many suggestions, you cannot say goodbye to Tenerife without discovering its northern end. El Caletón awaits you in Garachico , an area of natural pools made of lava. In front, a rock that, for the locals, or Garachiquenses as they are known, has become the symbol of the eruption that devastated the village in 1706.
At
Charco del Viento , one of the most beautiful bathing areas in the municipality of La Guancha, you´ll find a place like no other. To get there you will have to drive or cycle through banana greenhouses. Once you reach your goal, get your goggles and snorkel ready: the crystal clear waters will allow you to see the rich marine life that this area has to offer.
Now that we have presented our proposals, it's time to make your own calendar and not miss out on the most spectacular beaches that Tenerife has to offer. But don't forget to respect the environment to the max!. Do not throw waste into the sea and, if you generate rubbish, always remember to take it with you to a rubbish bin or a designated area. Only by doing this will we be able to enjoy this paradise called Tenerife for ever.
